Hani Mahmassani, the William A. Patterson Distinguished Chair in Transportation, Director of the Northwestern University Transportation Center, and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, died on July 15, 2025. In addition to serving as a member of TRB’s Executive Committee, Mahmassani was recognized with the Thomas B. Deen Distinguished Lectureship in 2016 and the Roy W. Crum Award in 2021—the year he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering.
