Daron Acemoglu, an Institute Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, has been awarded the 2024 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. He shares the award with MIT colleague Simon Johnson and University of Chicago Political Scientist James A. Robinson.

Mazen Alsharif, a senior program assistant in TRB’s Cooperative Research Programs, has accepted the position of transportation planning engineer at the Sharqia Development Authority in Saudi Arabia.

Christine L. Gerencher, a senior program officer in TRB’s Technical Activities Division, has stepped down as TR News Editorial Board chair. She has served in the role since 2016.

Stephen F. Maher, former deputy director and director of Program Content in the Technical Activities Division, accepted the role of TR News Editorial Board chair in February. He has been with TRB for 31-plus years and is now employed as a phased retiree.
